The International Congress will be held between April 24 and 27 as part of the most important mining exhibition in Latin America. In its new version, the meeting will address topics such as innovation, development, sustainability, competitiveness, employability, gender equity, productive efficiency, renewable energies, digitalization and safety, among others. One month before Expomin 2023, the official launch of the XVII International Congress of the most important mining exhibition in Latin America, to be held between Monday, April 24 and Thursday, April 27 at the Parque FISA exhibition center in Pudahuel, was held. The international congress will feature an extensive program of activities where the main challenges of the sector will be discussed, as well as the opportunities in innovation, sustainability and renewable energies that contribute to the growth of the industry. The ceremony was headed by the president of the Expomin international congress and vice-president of Teck South America, Amparo Cornejo; the executive director of Expomin, Francisco Sotomayor; the president of Sonami, Jorge Riesco; the president of Aprimin, Philippe Hemmerdinger, among other relevant people from the mining sector. At the activity, the president of the Expomin 2023 Congress and vice-president of Teck South America, Amparo Cornejo, who will lead the Expomin 2023 congress, said that “this year Expomin will present a great congress, which has as an attribute a large number of topics to be addressed, with an interesting debate regarding the present of mining, along with its future development, in addition to addressing the sector’s contribution to combating climate change and its commitment to sustainability”. “I would like to invite everyone to attend Expomin 2023. This year the congress is very robust, very solid, with great presentations, and during the fair there will be immense opportunities to do business, to learn about technologies, to soak in every activity that today impacts and benefits the economy”, added Cornejo. Expomin will have the participation of 9 mining companies, which will take part in the international congress, which will include 14 seminars, various keynote speeches and more than 70 speakers who will analyze the main challenges and opportunities that the mining sector currently presents, its development for the future, advances in new technologies and alternatives to promote a more sustainable industry. In this way, the congress, which will cover in its panels the main strategic issues of the sector, will address topics of relevance for the industry, both nationally and internationally, presenting in its international congress: -Mining in the Americas: opportunities and challenges; Mining challenges; Sustainability trends, socio-environmental axes; Energy efficiency in mining: reducing our carbon footprint; Circular mining: technologies oriented to waste management; Desalination technologies: socio-environmental impacts and opportunities; Sonami’s responsible sourcing committee; Presentation of copper projects; Presentation of lithium, gold and other projects; Digitalization and technology 4. 0 in mining; Development of people, inclusion and gender equity; Occupational safety: driver of business improvement; Challenges and trends in exploration; and Cybersecurity in mining. At the event, Francisco Sotomayor, executive director of Expomin, highlighted that “the meeting is a great opportunity to show the world what Chile is doing in mining, with the possibility of generating links and business between companies from different countries. In addition, with the international congress we will be able to analyze and advance in various challenges facing this industry, and ensure the development of mining and of all the people who are part of the sector”. Sotomayor also highlighted the trajectory of the meeting and the relevance that women in mining are taking on today. “With 32 years of history, we are happy to announce that, for the first time in history, the presidency of the congress is in the hands of a woman, Amparo Cornejo, vice-president of TECK, a highly recognized executive, with a long trajectory in the sector, who will lead a full 4-day congress program, among them, the renowned Summit of the Americas, where together with SONAMI, 5 mining chambers of the region are being convened”. Sotomayor concluded by stating that “at Expomin we want to contribute to the generation of employment, promoting economic recovery and the development of the industry. It will be a platform of opportunities of international scope for Chile and the world, which will take place in our events center Parque Fisa, the largest fairground in Santiago with more than 230 thousand square meters”. This year, Expomin will feature the panel “Mining Challenges”, with the participation of the Minister of Mining, Marcela Hernando, and the most senior executives of national mining companies, including Jorge Gómez, CEO of Collahuasi; Ivan Arriagada, CEO of AMSA; Rag Udd, president of Minerals Americas BHP; Amparo Cornejo, President of Expomin Congress and vice-president of TECK South America; and Máximo Pacheco, president of Codelco. The event will be moderated by Joaquín Villarino, executive president of the Mining Council. With the presence of more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 30 countries, including Germany, Canada, Australia, Peru, the United States and Spain, among others, more than 70 thousand professional visitors are expected. Likewise, it is projected that during the event, spread over 95 thousand square meters of exhibition and activations, more than US$ 1 billion in business will be generated.
