At the launch of the 2025 edition of Expomin, Patricio Hidalgo was one of the main protagonists of the meeting that brought together leading representatives of the mining world at the Metropolitan Santiago events center. The executive president of Anglo American in Chile received the presidency of the Expomin 2025 Congress from Amparo Cornejo, vice-president of Teck South America, and outlined some of the tasks he will emphasize during his term. “Expomin is a very important instance for the world, for our country and for mining. As a miner by training and conviction, it is a tremendous honor to assume the Presidency of the Expomin 2025 Congress, and I hope to continue contributing value to this emblematic meeting for the industry”, said Hidalgo. “Today, mining has a unique opportunity, which is to provide the minerals needed to address global challenges, such as energy transition and climate change, and we have a duty to do so in a sustainable and responsible manner. These challenges are so complex that our individual commitment is not enough to address them. Therefore, the invitation is to work collaboratively among the different actors in society”, he said. During the event, Patricio Hidalgo also took the opportunity to praise the value of the industry. “I am convinced that our world is better thanks to mining, and we will work hard to convene more actors, to show what we are doing as an industry, and for the new generations to see mining as a possibility for the future, in short, for Chile to reaffirm its pride in being a mining country”. Likewise, the executive president of Anglo American in Chile also referred to the new aspects that the industry should focus on. “I think it is very important to be open to listen to those people who are not related to mining, to those territories that are not mining, to younger people, to the talent that we can find in schools and universities, and to listen to what we must do differently as a mining company to make it even more sustainable and much more in balance with our environments and with the territories in which we operate”.
