Andrew Winston, one of the most influential voices in sustainability and business worldwide, will be one of the keynote speakers at the Expomin 2025 International Congress, the largest gathering of the mining industry in Latin America.

The event, organized by FISA of the GL events group in conjunction with Anglo American Chile, will be held from April 22 to 25 at Espacio Riesco, ending on Saturday 26 with the Community Day. In this edition, the XVIII International Congress, entitled “Reimagining Mining in Latin America” has announced its program, highlighting the participation of important speakers, including Andrew Winston.

Winston is widely recognized worldwide for his work advising large companies in the transition to more sustainable models, being a reference in the discussion on corporate sustainability. He is ranked number 3 in Thinkers50, the ranking that highlights the most influential management experts in the world. His ideas have been reported in relevant media such as the Financial Times, marking a before and after in the way companies face environmental and social challenges.

With an outstanding track record as a consultant, Winston has worked with major companies such as 3M, Johnson & Johnson, PepsiCo, Unilever and Walmart, helping them to integrate sustainability as a key pillar of their business strategy.

In the aftermath of the pandemic, Winston reflected on the impacts and lessons learned at the business level, stating that “companies should go beyond simply making money and maximizing short-term profits. Instead, they should focus on creating a better world by becoming carbon neutral, using renewable energy and promoting clean air.

Andrew Winston’s participation in Expomin’s XVIII International Congress will offer attendees a unique perspective on how the mining industry can innovate and generate value through sustainable strategies. His presence at the meeting on Tuesday, April 22, between 16:30-17:15 hrs, reinforces the importance of adopting a responsible business approach in an increasingly challenging environmental context, on which Winston reflects.

“To me, “ESG”, which stands for environmental, social and governance, refers primarily to the investor-driven movement to understand how social and environmental issues create risk for a company. It’s about helping investors evaluate a company as an investment. ESG also refers to a constantly evolving area of corporate financial reporting, as mandates for disclosure of significant environmental and social risks multiply. On the other hand, “sustainability” encompasses a much broader perspective on a company’s role in society, whether it is operating within planetary boundaries and how it helps (or not) to solve major environmental and social challenges. However, the two concepts are constantly confused, which generates confusion,” he said.

With a focus on the future, at Expomin 2025 Winston will deliver key insights on how companies can balance profitability with positive impact.
