– The most important mining exhibition in Latin America will be held between Monday, April 24 and Thursday, April 27 at the new largest fairground in Chile, Parque Fisa.

Santiago, April 17, 2023 – A week before the start of the most important mining exhibition in Latin America, Expomin 2023, the Minister of Mining, Marcela Hernando, said that this coming Monday, April 24 “we will be part of a long-awaited reunion for the mining industry. In its 32 years of history, Expomin has positioned itself as the great mining event, not only in Chile, but also in Latin America. It will be the ideal opportunity to attract investment, highlighting the attributes that our country has in the mining sector”.
On the occasion, the Secretary of State and also honorary president of Expomin, Marcela Hernando, said that “this is a space for exchanging ideas on industry trends and discovering new links that will allow us to move forward and achieve objectives aimed at sustainable mining and carbon neutrality. In the same way, we also promote the development of new technologies, the optimization of resources and support for smaller companies, which today represent innovative and necessary solutions for the industry”.
Minister Hernando emphasized that “the objective of our participation is to consolidate Chile’s leadership, highlighting our mineral and territorial wealth, as well as our robust legal framework for the development of investments in a sustainable manner in our country”.
Details of the exhibition
The XVII Exhibition will be attended by more than 30 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Peru, China, Spain, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, Belgium, Brazil and Argentina, with more than 1,000 exhibitors spread over more than 95,000 square meters. Likewise, more than 70 thousand professionals are expected to visit the event, and it is projected that more than US$ 1 billion in business will be generated during the event.
In this new version, Expomin will have the important participation of mining companies: Codelco, Teck, Antofagasta Minerals, Freeport-McMoRan, BHP, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP), Angloamerican, Candelaria, Sierra Gorda, Collahusi, Albemarle, Goldfields and Barrick.
In this context, the executive director of Expomin, Francisco Sotomayor, emphasized that “next Monday Expomin returns to Santiago, bringing together in one place the most important exponents of the mining industry, where Chile will be able to show its development and investment opportunities. There, the participants will be able to share knowledge, experiences and present the range of technologies that contribute to innovation and increased productivity in the industry. Therefore, I would like to invite everyone to attend Expomin 2023, an event that will boost the economy, presenting unique opportunities to generate business”.
Sotomayor also highlighted that this is the first time that Expomin will be held in the new Parque Fisa, Santiago’s International Trade Fair Park, “Chile’s largest trade fair site, which has an area of 250,000 m² and 6,500 parking spaces. We are also very happy because within the framework of Expomin we will inaugurate its new Convention Center, which has a space to receive more than 2,000 people, which is very relevant for the development of meeting tourism in Chile, as it is also good news for the generation of employment and foreign exchange, which is undoubtedly a contribution to national economic development”.
With the exhibition of new technologies, equipment and industrial development, the exhibition will highlight the presence of companies related to energy transition, environmental care, mining safety, and linkage with the communities.
This year Fisa of the GL events Group, in its role of corporate social responsibility, and together with the Ministry of Mining, ProChile, Alta Ley and Sonami, will provide a space in Expomin to 40 national startups related to the mining industry in the Mining Pavilion, where they will present their products, services and innovations, interacting with the industry and opening business opportunities. The call made by ProChile together with Alta Ley, considers companies from the Metropolitan, Antofagasta, Biobío, Valparaíso, Atacama regions, among others.
INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS
In parallel to the exhibition, the XVII International Congress of Expomin will be held, which will have an extensive program of activities with 14 panels, and the participation of more than 100 speakers from government, mining companies and senior representatives of the industry and key institutions that are part of the mining ecosystem. The international congress will be led by Amparo Cornejo, Teck’s vice-president for South America.
The topics of the Congress will allow the exchange of knowledge in the sector, covering the main strategic issues of the industry: Mining in the Region, Mining Challenges; Trends in Sustainability and Socio-environmental Axes; Energy Efficiency in Mining: Reducing our carbon footprint; Circular Mining: Technologies oriented to waste management; Desalination Technologies: Environmental Impacts and Opportunities; Responsible Sourcing Committee of Sonami; Presentation of projects related to copper; Presentation of Lithium, Gold and other projects; Challenges in Exploration; People Development, Inclusion and Gender Equity; and Digitalization and Cybersecurity in Mining.
Panel 2, Challenges in Mining, to be held on Monday, April 24, will feature a panel led by Marcela Hernando, Minister of Mining; Rag Udd, President of BHP Minerals Americas; Amparo Cornejo, Vice President of South America TECK; Jorge Gómez, CEO of Collahuasi; and Patricio Hidalgo, Executive Chairman of Angloamerican. The panel will be moderated by Joaquin Villarino, executive president of the Mining Council and will address the future scenario of the national industry and will focus on discussing the pending issues for the progress and momentum of mining in the next 30 years.
