Expomin, the largest mining fair in Latin America, presented a battery of announcements for its 2025 edition at a press conference led by the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, and in which also participated representatives of the industry and Fisa, part of the GL events group, organizer of the exhibition to be held from April 22 to 26 at Espacio Riesco.

Among the novelties of the meeting, at the offices of the Mining Council, Minister Williams highlighted the fact that the fair will be carbon neutral for the first time. In addition, together with a mobility plan that aims to mitigate the environmental impact by encouraging people to dispense with the use of automobiles, the authority announced that, for the first time in its history, Expomin will open its doors on Saturday 26th to bring mining closer to chilean families.

“I want to emphasize how important it is to have an industry committed to a common goal: to have the best mining fair in Latin America”, said the Secretary of State. She added that “Expomin has vast experience and in addition to offering a great event with outstanding exhibitors, it has set itself highly relevant objectives, such as being the first carbon neutral mining fair, a challenge that the mining industry faces and that this fair must also take on as a representative of the sector”, emphasized Williams.

On the occasion, the minister emphasized that Expomin 2025 has established a sustainable mobility plan with shuttle buses, support staff at the International Airport and satellite parking lots.

“Offsetting the carbon footprint of an event of this magnitude – with around 70 thousand attendees – is in line with our purpose of acting ‘in balance with the planet’ and our commitment to promote sustainable practices in the energy industry and other relevant industrial areas, thinking of all our stakeholders and future generations,” commented Daniel Gordon, Colbún’s Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Manager.

Mobility Plan

Another great novelty of the day was related to the launch of the Expomin 2025 Mobility Plan, which aims to optimize the experience of attendees, mitigating environmental impacts and providing sustainable mobility options.

In this context, Francisco Sotomayor, Executive Director of Expomin, highlighted the efforts of all the actors involved.

“The announcements made respond to historical concerns of the sector, as mining is a key driver for the energy transition and the fight against climate change. Therefore, we believe that a fair that brings together the entire industry should be an example in sustainability and sustainability. The goal of achieving carbon neutrality and the total recovery of waste generated during the production of the fair are significant steps in that direction.”

Sotomayor also revealed that “the Expomin 2025 mobility plan is positioned as a model of innovation at the national level, offering efficient solutions that transform this country event into a pilot experience for future large-scale meetings.”

“During the days of the fair, the Parque Arauco shopping center will offer exclusive parking for Expomin visitors. Buses to Espacio Riesco will depart every 30 minutes from a specially enabled bus stop in the mall. In addition, for foreign visitors arriving in Chile, information will be available at the baggage claim area of the International Airport. There will be bilingual monitors and a Welcome Desk coordinated by Sernatur to guarantee a smooth experience,” added the organizer.

Family Saturday

It was also confirmed that Expomin will open its doors to the community on Saturday, April 26 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. That day will be dedicated to families, offering an interactive and educational experience to bring mining closer to Chileans.

“As part of the effort we are making for Chile to have the best mining fair in Latin America, we believe it is essential that it connects with the territories and with all actors in society. This is why Expomin will dedicate a special day to families, inviting us all to explore in an interactive and educational way the mining industry, which is key to the development and future of the country,” commented Patricio Hidalgo, executive president of Anglo American in Chile, and who is the president of the Expomin 2025 Congress.

To amplify the experience of visitors on Saturday, the mining pavilion and part of the open areas will be set up, which is the sector where companies exhibit part of the machinery that operates in large mining and where several companies will organize activations of the brands linked to Expomin, an event that seeks to bring together more than 1,300 exhibitors and projects the presence of 70 thousand visitors.
