Santiago, August 19 – In a day designed for reflection and discussion of the challenges and opportunities that mobilize the mining industry, Expomin brought together the former presidents of its International Congress, the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, and the Chairman of the Board of Codelco, Máximo Pacheco, for a working breakfast on Monday, to project the themes that will be addressed in the next edition of the most important mining fair in Latin America, to be held between April 22 and 25, 2025 at Espacio Riesco.
Patricio Hidalgo, executive president of Anglo American in Chile, who will lead the International Congress in its 2025 version, and executives of the country’s main mining companies that previously chaired the forum, such as Amparo Cornejo – vice-president of Teck South America – and Mario Larenas, Country Manager of Freeport-McMoRan, participated in the event together with the Secretary of State and representatives of Fisa, of the GL events group, organizers of the exhibition.
“This is the way in which Expomin 2025 is built, jointly with work teams and with different meetings that allow us to build a highly successful Expomin, which looks to the communities, which looks to the territories, to innovation and which also allows us to develop a work program that is of interest to all the actors,” said the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams.
During the meeting, the attendees presented their proposals for the new version of the exhibition and addressed the issues that should be part of the discussion at the Congress, ranging from the integration of communities, the role of women, enhancing innovation, deepening sustainability and opening up mining to Chilean families.
“Together with Expomin, we wanted to convene those who have led the International Congress in past years, in order to gather their perspectives and experiences, and thus jointly design a Congress 2025 that convenes not only the mining industry, but society as a whole,” said Patricio Hidalgo, president of next year’s Expomin Congress.
“As an industry, we have a lot to continue contributing to Chile and the world, for example, in terms of innovation and transformation of mining towards the future, and in terms of listening to the communities that welcome us; and we want to do it in a collaborative and purposeful way. For this reason, we believe that this meeting is a great starting point for what will be the Expomin 2025 International Congress, and to continue re-imagining mining that contributes critical minerals to the energy transition and the fight against climate change”, added Hidalgo.
After almost two hours of conversation and exchange of ideas, the activity ended with the commitment of the attendees to repeat the event in the coming months. “For us as an organization it was a luxury to convene such important people from the industry and we are very satisfied with the generosity of all those who participated to present their ideas and contributions, in view of the new era that the mining activity is facing”, commented Francisco Sotomayor, executive director of Expomin 2025.
